Kattamashai (Benode Behari Mukherjee), master Indian artist from Santiniketan, loses his sense of sight after achieving the heights of his creativity. His life and experiments with art then come to a standstill. The film depicts his struggle during the same, and his eventual rise.
Rudranarayan, his personal care-taker comes to help him during his illness, during which they begin interacting. However, Rudranarayan was none but his very alter ego.
Kattamashai accepts the reality of darkness and starts his art with a new perception. This acceptance gives rise to one of his greatest master pieces, the long mural on Kala Bhavana canteen wall.
